Acoustic Guitars

Acoustic or ‘Steel String’ guitars are a common guitar type in modern music. They sound bright and lively due to their steel strings and project this sound with a hollow body, so can be easily enjoyed without extra amplification.

These guitars are a great choice for pop, folk, acoustic rock and other modern genres.

Classical Guitars

The classical guitar (also known as a nylon-string guitar or Spanish guitar), is a precursor to the modern acoustic and electric guitar. It is an acoustic instrument so can be enjoyed without extra amplification but has a more mellow sound than a steel string guitar, as its strings are made of nylon.

These guitars are great choice for classical, folk and jazz and are a little easier to play for very young learners, as the nylon strings are softer under the fingers.

Electric Guitars

The Electric guitar is the newest form of the guitar. It has been used widely in music from the 1930s. Electric guitar bodies are usually made from solid wood, so need extra amplification to be heard. The sound can be shaped or electronically altered to achieve different timbres or tonal qualities, making it quite different than an acoustic guitar.

These guitars are a great choice for Pop, Rock, Indie & Metal.
